EPL Preview: Everton v Manchester United

Robin van Persie of Manchester United poses with a United shirt after a press conference after signing a four year contract with the club on August 17, 2012 in Manchester, England.

I’m gonna give United a try in their opening match at Goodison Park tonight. The spread seems fair at the first sight, technically, but United have always had easy times when playing Everton, despite appearances. With Shinji Kagawa and of course Robin van Persie joining them this summer, the team will be more powerful than last season. Van Persie playing up-front as a target man and sustained by Nani, Rooney and Kagawa behind, is a dream came true and I dare to say that this might be the best attack in the EPL. Their weakest part will be, as usually, their backline which wasn’t solid for years, since Ferdinand, Silvestre, Neville and John O’Shea times. But they got used to that, that’s a new era for Manchester United and as long as they can score more goals, that’s fine.

Everton with Moyes as manager for not less than 10 years are somehow predictable. Expectations are always high, but they often forget to deliver. Tofees were really average in the last 2-3 seasons, losing a lot of points at home and being only a shadow of the 2009/2010 season when Goodison Park was a real fortress. Of course, this is only talks and anything can happen from now on. But that’s a trend to consider and I think that the selling of Jack Rodwell and Cahill won’t help, even if Kevin Mirallas seems like a good addition. But overall, their quality is clearly inferior compared to United and their usual game-plan under Moyes is not something I would be afraid of.
