The PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker began last night with the first few of 62 events that will guarantee a total prize pool of $50,000,000 getting underway. The $215 6-max NL; the $10,300 High Roller NL and the $215 full ring NL began alongside WCoOP second chance tournaments worth $100 to $1,000 in entry fees.
Event #1 guaranteed a $1,250,000 prize pool for the 6-max NL event with a $200 + $15 buy-in. In actuality 9,001 players entered in the event to send the prize pool soaring to $1,800,200. The second event was the $10,300 High Roller with a $2m guarantee but 313 pros and rich whales boosted the prize pool to $3,130,000.
As we write, none of the events are yet completed though Ville Wahlbeck is looking strong to take down the High Roller’s first prize of $605,655 holding the chip lead three-handed. Event #3 also smashed the guarantee of $2,000,000 when 12,066 players put up the $215 to create a prize pool of more than $2.4m.
This is just the first day of weeks of poker fun at PokerStars, the world’s largest poker site. The way it’s going it seems the 2010 WCoOP will be the biggest yet.
