The young Brit poker pro Sam Trickett added further lustre to his reputation....and a cool Euro 1 million in prize money to his bank balance...this weekend in Cannes, France, besting a field of 579 that included many of the top players in the world to take down the 2011 Partouche Poker Tour.
It was his third seven-figure take-home this year alone, & topped a run that has seen him boost his career earnings by $4.5 million to date.
After a fantastic World Series of Poker & other major tournaments performance in 2010, Trickett kicked off 2011 with a A$1,525,000 victory in the Aussie Millions High Roller event, following this a little later with a second placing against Erik Seidel in the A$250,000 buy-in Super High Roller for a further A$1,400,000.
He went on to cash in final tables at the WPT Diamond Championship; the EPT London High Roller & the Euro 5,000 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha event at the WSOPE in Cannes last month.
Trickett went into the final table of the Partouche Poker Tour main event with a small chip lead, facing Salman Behbehani, Oleksil Kovalchuk, Ilan Boujenah, Roger Hairabedian, Alexander Dovzhenko, Mustapha Kanit, Alexandre Coussy & Mads Wissing.
The young Brit had to fight back into contention after losing heavily early on & dropping down to the bottom of the chip counts as the eliminations whittled the table down to four players, but Trickett survived, made a comeback, & won through to the heads up with US player Salman Behbehani, although he was at a 2 to 1 disadvantage.
Undeterred, Trickett played his way back to equal his opponent's chip count, & then slightly increased his lead going into what turned out to be the final hand.
Trickett opened to 200 000 & Behbehani made it 585 000; Trickett four-bet to 1.3 million & Behbehani shoved for just over 8 milllion, where Trickett snap-called with tens & Behbehani showed AJ offsuit.
The board brought no help for Behbehani & Trickett took the main prize & the honours, leaving Behbehani with the runner up prize of Euro 600 000.
The win brings Trickett's career earnings to just short of $6.5 million, making him one the top earners among European pros, & with six weeks of 2011 still remaining, he has the potential to boost his bank balance further both on & offline.
